About Chip Line

Chip Line is a free board games game you can play online instantly at Playaby — no downloads, no installs, and no sign-up. Play a card, place a chip, and line up 5 in a row to win. Be the first to form the required number of Chip Lines — 5 of your chips in a row, using the free corners — on the shared card board.

Chip Line blends a card game and a board game: every space on the 10×10 board corresponds to a playing card, so the hand you're dealt decides which spaces you can claim. The two-eyed Jacks are wild and let you drop a chip anywhere, while the one-eyed Jacks let you pluck an opponent's chip right off the board — as long as it isn't already locked into a finished Chip Line. This build deals a freshly shuffled board layout every game instead of a fixed one, so memorizing card positions from a previous round won't help next time. Play 2 players (first to 2 Chip Lines wins) or 3 (first to 1 Chip Line wins), mixing and matching humans and CPU opponents at each seat on the same device with a pass-and-reveal screen so hotseat players don't peek at hands that aren't theirs — or skip the same-screen shuffle entirely and play online against real people on their own devices, with the host dealing the shuffled hands and everyone reacting live with emoji.

How to Play Chip Line

Objective

Be the first to form the required number of Chip Lines — 5 of your chips in a row, using the free corners — on the shared card board.

  • Click a card in your hand, then click a highlighted board space to place your chip there
  • Each board space matches a rank and suit — every card in the deck opens up two spaces
  • Two-eyed Jacks (J♥ J♦) are wild and place a chip on any open space
  • One-eyed Jacks (J♠ J♣) remove any opponent chip that is not already part of a completed Chip Line
  • A card with no legal space left can be discarded for a fresh one instead of playing it
  • 2 players/teams need 2 Chip Lines to win; 3 players/teams only need 1
  • Play online with 1 or 2 friends — create a room and share the code or link

Desktop Controls

  • Click a card in your hand to select it — its legal board spaces highlight
  • Click a highlighted board space to place your chip there
  • Click a card with no legal target to discard it and draw a new one
  • Play locally with pass-and-play (a reveal screen hides each hand from the others), or online via a room code with up to 2 friends

Mobile Controls

  • Tap a card in your hand to select it, then tap a highlighted board space to place — the same click-based interface carries over to touch, with no drag or swipe gestures needed

Tips for Chip Line

  • A single chip can count toward at most 2 completed Chip Lines — the game automatically caps reuse, so don't rely on one lucky diagonal to win everything; a second Chip Line needs mostly fresh chips.
  • Two-eyed Jacks (J♥, J♦) can be placed on any open space — save them to close out a Chip Line rather than spending them early on a random open cell.
  • A one-eyed Jack (J♠, J♣) can't touch a chip that's already locked into a finished Chip Line — target opponent chips that are still "live" before they lock in.
  • If a card in your hand has no legal target (both printed copies on the board are filled, or a Jack has nothing to act on), clicking it automatically discards it and draws a replacement — don't hold a dead card hoping for an opening.
  • Corners are free for every player and are never capped or removable, so lines that run through a corner are the cheapest Chip Lines to build.

The two-eyed Jacks (hearts and diamonds) are wild — play one to place a chip on any open space. The one-eyed Jacks (spades and clubs) are removal cards — play one to take an opponent's chip off the board, unless that chip is already part of a completed Chip Line.

With 2 players or teams, the first to complete 2 Chip Lines wins. With 3 players or teams, completing just 1 Chip Line is enough.

Can I play Chip Line with more than one person on the same device?

Yes — set any seat to Human and give it a name. Between human turns, a "pass the device" screen keeps the next player's hand hidden until they tap ready.

Is there an online mode for Chip Line?

Yes — create a room and send the code or link to 1 or 2 friends on their own devices, no download or sign-in needed. The host deals and shuffles the board, everyone plays their own hand in private, and you can fire off emoji reactions to each other's moves in real time.
