The rally-based speed ramp and the way paddle contact bends the ball's angle mean a long point against a good CPU is a genuinely different game from the first exchange of a match. Most players lose not because the CPU cheats, but because they keep returning the ball the same flat way while it keeps getting faster.

The ball speeds up with every hit, not with the score

The BALL SPEED meter under the board isn't decoration — it climbs with the length of the current rally, so a scrappy 17-hit exchange (the kind that earns a 'LOCKED IN!' streak notice) is being played at a noticeably faster speed than the rally that opened the match. That means the danger point in most games isn't the first return, it's the fifth or sixth, once the ball has picked up speed but your positioning habits haven't adjusted yet.

Where you hit the paddle matters more than whether you hit it

Returning the ball with the dead center of your paddle sends it back close to flat, which is exactly the shot an alert CPU handles easiest. Catching it near the top or bottom edge of your paddle bends the return at a much sharper angle. Moving your paddle at the moment of contact adds even more angle on top of that, similar to brushing a shot in real table tennis — a paddle that's actively moving up or down when it meets the ball sends it off with extra bite compared to one that's sitting still.

Steep angles beat raw speed

Because the CPU has to physically travel to meet the ball, a return angled sharply toward the top or bottom of the court forces it to cover more vertical distance in the same amount of time a flat shot would take. A fast, flat shot down the middle is often easier for the CPU to track than a slower shot angled hard into a corner. Once the rally speed starts climbing, lean on edge-of-paddle contact rather than trying to out-race the ball back down the middle.

The three CPU difficulty levels change more than just speed

Tapping the CPU difficulty button cycles between Easy, Medium, and Hard, and each one changes three things at once: how fast the CPU paddle can physically move, how quickly it reacts to the ball crossing the midline, and how much random error gets mixed into where it predicts the ball will land. Easy has a noticeable delay and a wide margin of error, which is why shots that just clip the edge of the court tend to sneak past it. Hard reacts almost immediately and predicts your shots with very little wasted motion, so beating it relies much more on angle and paddle-edge contact than on raw reflexes.

2-player mode removes the CPU's one real weakness

Against the CPU, the error margin baked into easy and medium difficulty means a shot that looks risky sometimes just works. Switch to 2-player on the same device and that margin disappears — a human opponent watching the board can track a fast, steep angle just as well as a flat one, so the edge-of-paddle and paddle-movement tricks that beat the CPU on easy stop being a free win and just become a normal rally.

Why does the ball get faster during a single rally?

It's a deliberate escalation rather than a bug — the longer a single point goes on, the more the game raises the ball's base speed, which is what the BALL SPEED bar and the rally counter are tracking together. It resets back down once a point ends, so a fresh rally after a scored point always starts at the slower baseline again regardless of how frantic the previous point got.

Does moving my paddle while hitting the ball actually do anything?

Yes. The angle the ball leaves your paddle at is based on where along the paddle it made contact, and your paddle's own velocity at that instant adds an extra push to that angle. A paddle that's moving toward the edge it's about to hit with sends the ball off sharper than a paddle that was already sitting still at that spot, so timing your movement into the hit is worth more than just standing in the right place and waiting.

First to 10 wins the match, and the games that get there fastest are rarely the ones with the longest rallies — they are the ones where one side keeps finding a sharper angle than the other can cover.
